Over the years we have taken advantage of the many affordable, direct flights from Miami to Boston in order to explore a variety of New England destinations within driving distance of the city. Although Boston itself is never the primary destination, we always spend a day or two there at the front or back end of our larger trip. Boston has quickly become a favorite US city and a place we can see ourselves living in the future. Here’s how we recommend spending 48 hours in Boston:
Kick the day off with a hearty breakfast at The Paramount and get ready to explore Beacon Hill. This neighborhood is quintessential Boston with steep, cobblestone streets and historic brownstone homes.
No visit to Beacon Hill would be complete without a stroll down Acorn Street. This charming alley is commonly referred to as America’s most photographed street. I’m not sure if that’s actually true, but it certainly is the place I’ve photographed most in Boston!
Continue your self-guided walking tour of Beacon Hill with a stop at Louisburg Square to admire its elegant homes that date back to the 1800’s.
Spend the afternoon shopping on Charles Street and stop at Rouvalis Flowers & Gardens to peruse their floral arrangements. If you’re a fan of the TV show Cheers, the bar they used to film exterior shots is nearby.
In the evening, head to Yvonne’s for drinks and Moo for dinner.
Any day should always start with a strong cup of coffee and a great breakfast, so head to Tatte Bakery & Cafe for just that. After a few pastries, you’ll be ready to walk off the calories in Boston Common.
Next, get literary at Boston Athenaeum (Boston’s oldest library), Brattle Bookshop, or the Boston Public Library. For a little history, take the architecture tour at Boston Public Library.
Back Bay is another picturesque part of town with plenty of shopping (Newbury Street) and restaurant options. Alternatively, head towards Boston’s North End to the Boston Public Market and the Paul Revere House.
Enjoy a delicious Italian dinner at Grotto to cap off your evening. Although not located in the North End (Boston’s little Italy), this is some of the best Italian food in the city and not to be missed!
